Willy (or Wee Willy Willikers) is a sweet little Shih Tzu. He is approximately 7 years old. He came from a breeding kennel just outside of Ingersoll. Willy spent the first 7 years of his life being a breeding dog. He was never inside a house, was never taught any commands or even his own name!
Willy is extremely sweet natured and gentle. He is affectionate. but still a little hand shy. He loves playing and enjoys tossing around and chewing up soft objects. He has no concept over what is a toy and what isn't so has a bit of a stealing problem. Fortunately, he isn't very sneaky and never manages to make off with anything. He loves his toys and empties the toy box hourly.
Willy is great with the other dogs and gets along well with the cats. He loves to chase them around and play with them. He enjoys playing with his human family, but does have a finger nibbling problem. Due to this and his small size he is not appropriate for a home with young children.
Shih Tzu have long hair that is left untrimmed will drag on the floor. Their grooming needs are a bit much for many people. To keep him tat free he will need brushing several times a week. They are low shedders and are usually good for people with allergies.
As Willy has never been in a house before, he is not house trained. He is doing about 95% of his bathrooms outside but thats with going outside every 3-4 hours. Even when he gets completely house trained it will take him time to build up his bladder control. He is not a dog that can be left alone for hours. He is loving being around humans so much, he suffers from separation anxiety when left alone. He is not appropriate for those who will be gone to work all day and have to leave them alone.
Willy is a sweetheart. He is gentle and loving and once he gets past his house training issues will be a great little dog. He's usually quiet, other than when he gets playing or lonely, than he has a much louder voice than expected.
As Willy really didn't get any exercise, he has no real muscle tone. He is very slow moving and tires easily. He has no idea how to walk on a lead and freezes and refuses to move when one is out on him. He was a pound or two underweight, but has gained about 3 pounds over the last couple of weeks. A few months of good exercise and food should help these problems. He is yet to go up and down stairs, but has learned to jump up on the couch.
Willy will be with us for at least another 2-3 weeks. He's a special little guy who deserves a great home where he will get lots of love and attention. Shih Tzu usually live to be around 15 years old, so Willy has lots of life left to share with someone very special.
